The seminar will involve a combination of theoretical and practical training, foundation and skills workshop.
Motivational interviewing (MI) is a psychologically informed approach defined as a collaborative, goal-oriented style of communication. MI has been widely recommended for implementation by a range of healthcare professionals (including AHPs) as a complex behaviour change intervention.
This two-day course will introduce you to the evidence base underpinning MI and the concepts which shape MI practice. A key component of the course will be the development of MI skills using demonstrations, small group work and role-play. You will become familiar with strategies to help you put your MI training into practice, especially during challenging patient encounters.
